Attack of warble fly (Mahro Makhi).

“Mehro Makhi” or warble fly is highly dangerous for animals because it punctures skins, affects reproduction system and growth of animals, a focal person of Livestock Department Multan,  Dr. Majid informed. The affected animals lose capacity to offer milk or produce babies due to attack of the fly, he said. These cattle heads could not take food properly as “Mehro Makhi” lays eggs on skin of animals and then larvae penetrates into body. Livestock department has been taking different measures to remove this larvae as a special squad of Livestock department was visiting cattle farms across the district.

Mobile Veterinary units also visit different villages on daily basis in order to treat affected animals and create awareness among farmers about dangerous effects of the fly. The attack of Mehro Makhi were common in tribal areas of Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan. “We arranged different programmes on radio to sensitize the cattle farmers and also distributed pamphlets to instruct farmers for taking special care of animals.” Dr. Majid informed that the department has received good response for the campaign. “We have controlled the attack of fly in many areas”, he informed.
