Black Australorp, An Emerging Poultry Business

Black Australorp is one of the most efficient egg layers as it gives averages over 300 eggs per hen per year in a commercial setting. However, backyard poultry producers should not expect more than 250 eggs a year. The Black Australorp is an ideal bird for free-range production as they have a good temperament. Although they are renowned for their egg-laying ability, the Australorp is a durable dual-purpose breed as it is also suitable for meat. The hen starts laying eggs at the end of the fifth month and starts with 3 or 4 eggs a week.
