Farmers should cultivate high-yielding varieties of sunflower over a greater area so that it can help save billions of rupees of oil import including self-sufficiency. Farmers should adopt inter-cropping instead of traditional way of sowing crops so that they continue to generate income all year long. Some have also imported sunflower seeds from South Africa, whose varieties 5521 and 8251 have yielded more than 45 mound per acre. The market rates of the above varieties are also higher than those of other varieties. The plant height is medium and due to the inclination of the flower it is protected from heat and birds.
