Agriculture experts said that farmers can get better yeild by cultivating approved desi varities of tomatoes. Farmers can cultivate approved desi varities of tomatoes like Roma, Nigina, Pocket and Naqeeb, while the hybrid varieties are Money Maker, Jury, Yuki, T1359, Eden F1, Red Champion, Dominator and Fonto, which have excellent yield potential. In Central Punjab, tomato transplanting can be grown from 1st October to mid-November. Last year in Punjab, 96,269 tonnes were produced by cultivating 18,201 acres of tomatoes. Tomato is an important vegetable which is rich in vitamins A, C, riboflavin, thymine and mineral salts like iron, lime and phosphorus which are very beneficial for health.
