Mulches are used to protect the vegetables from frost in cold weather. Farmers are using various types of organic and inorganic mulches. Organic mulches include grass and bark clippings, straw, dry leaves, sawdust, and compost. Whereas gravels, pebbles, and plastic are being used as inorganic mulches. Farmers should avoid the use of plastic mulch in winter because water accumulates on plastic and leading to the root rotting. Farmers should prefer organic mulches because they are environment friendly, enhance the fertility of the soil and reduce the chances of root rotting.
